SUMMARY:Ratification of the 24th Amendment About Vote & Poll Tax
DESCRIPTION:The 24th Amendment was ratified in 1964. President Lyndon Johnson called it “the triumph of liberty over restriction … there can be no one too poor to vote.”   At the time of the passing of this Amendment\, the most egregious use of poll taxes stop voting was in Virginia\, Alabama\, Mississippi\, Arkansas\, and Texas. The Amendment text follows.  Read more>>> \n\n\n\n\nSection 1 \nThe right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President\, for electors for President or Vice President\, or for Senator or Representative in Congress\, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay poll tax or other tax. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSection 2 \nThe Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
