An explanation of failed student loan forgiveness plans

This explains the court’s decision to stall President Biden’s loan forgiveness ideas.  How significant is the problem?  Federal loans totaling $1.6 trillion burden 42.8 million borrowers.  These debts are a drag on the economy and the borrowers.

On the positive side, there are two well-considered takeaways:

1. Blanket relief for borrowers seems both inefficient and unjust.
2. Reforming the debt program is a job for Congress, not Executive Orders.
