In 2022, Sen. John Cornyn (Texas-R) and Rep. Tom Cole (Oklahoma-R) sponsored legislation than was quickly called a “Trojan horse.”  It would authorize $1B yearly for grants to develop more civics education that would not only balance the STEM emphasis in schools but also strengthen our support for democracy.

A crisis resulted, and the National Civics Bee decided to use its platform to help.  The Bee is one of many initiatives of The Civic Trust founded by the U.S. Chamber of Congress.  The first ever national contest was held on November 12, 2024.  The winner was an Alaskan 8th grader, Emily Brubaker.Do you know more civics than an eighth-grader?
