Secretary Chuck Gray suggested a number of voting rules changes, and this past week LSO drafts of the corresponding bills were discussed.
Secretary Gray argues that:
- WY is one of a few states without a residency rule.
- The new WY resident is able to vote in the federal election.
- It’s best to pre-empt problems that might happen in WY.
Turns out that THIRTY states don’t have durational residency.
Secretary Gray said — with a straight face — that new WY residents retain their voting rights because each is free to return to their old state to vote.
“Durational residency” returns for discussion in October
