Until 2022, ghost guns were not regulated. They didn’t have serial numbers, and their sales records were not kept. The ghost guns surged in use, and the federal government changed the rules to deal with ghost guns in the same manner as other guns. In 2023, a TX district court ruled against the new regulation, calling it overreach.
Despite the court’s usual reluctance to approve gun restrictions, there are indications that SCOTUS will support this restriction.
