Rules for Voting
Starting in 2026 Wyoming has a new set of rules for registering to voter and identifying voters. See the official Secretary of State website for information.
Legislation and legal challenges
- House Bill 156 requires proof of 30-day residency and citizenship to register to vote. Consult your local County Clerk Elections Office for the updated voter registration requirements and documentation.
- The Equality State Police Center filed a lawsuit against changes imposed by HB156, and LWVWY submitted an amicus brief in support.
- The lawsuit was dismissed on July 22 due to lack of legal standing, but a lawsuit can be filed again with plaintiffs who establish legal standing
- Legal standing means that a party has a personal stake in the outcome.
- If you can demonstrate that the rule changes will significantly hinder your ability to vote, you may have standing. Please reach out to us at info@wyominglwv.org.
- See our League press release on the lawsuit.
