Secretary Degenfelder released the ACT scores for students who are seniors in high school. Their average score–19.1– is higher than the average of other states which require all enrolled students to take the test. However:
- Some students take SAT instead of ACT
- Only nine states are in this small subgroup in which WY was reported
I don’t believe in rewarding high test scores, but this release does suggest that 19.1 is a really great score. It is not. The average from 39 other states scored higher than 19.1 and South Carolina tied WY. What’s more, the national average is 19.4, and the scores all fall between 17.2 and 26.7.
