The article compares numbers from Pat’s career with those today:
- 1972–Pat assumed her congressional office. She was the first woman to represent Colorado. There were 14 women in the House then, 125 today
- The chair of the House Armed Services Committee said that women and blacks were worth only half of one ‘regular’ member so Pat shared her seat on the committee with a Black man from CA.
- Starting in 1993 women were allowed to wear pants on the Senate floor. As of 2011, there is a women’s bathroom intended for female representatives.
- She and Congresswoman Marge Roukema initiated the Family Leave Act which became law in 1993. This pair was ridiculed much like today’s Squad with AOC.
The passing of Pat Schroeder marks how far we have come
