International Women’s Day
March is Women’s History Month and March 8 is International Women’s Day (IWD).
The first IWD is controversial because it had roots in the communist and socialist labor movements. On February 23, 1917 — March 8 on the Julian calendar used until the Russian Revolution in 1917. In 1975 the United Nations joined the celebration of March 8. International marketing brought IWD to the US in 2014. Pepsi, Hagen Daz, M&Ms, and L’Oreal (London Paris) are a few major corporate examples.
