The “Dignity Act” immigration bill is sponsored by two Hispanic women from Hispanic-majority districts, Reps. Maria Elvira Salazar (R-Miami, FL) and Veronica Escobar (D-El Paso,TX)

“Most notably, the bill would grant legal status to undocumented immigrants who have been in the country for at least five years and who can pass a criminal-background check.”  Each would pay $5,000 in restitution over seven years and a 1.5 percent payroll tax, and they would be ineligible for federal benefits.  Only then could they begin the citizenship process.  Lastly, they suggest that the revenues paid by immigrants go toward job training of others who might feel overlooked and forgotten.  Read more>>>
