The article addresses 2010-2019 although data is available through 2021. Let’s start with some of the terms used.
- Public Uniform Crime Report (UCR): managed by the FBI, contains data through 2019
- Crime Data Explorer (CDE) is a data program that searches the UCR
- Murder Accountability Project is a nonprofit group started in 2015 by retired journalist Thomas R. Hargrove to track unsolved homicides nationwide. His early successes used software he wrote to identify serial killers using crime clusters.
As is made clear in the LWVWY study on MMIW/P, data and reporting of data are significant problems. Multiple counties, including Fremont Co, have gaps in what’s reported on state records and what’s reported on UCR.
