The oral arguments recording of Arizona v Navajo Nation is interesting, especially as some Justices — especially Justice Kagan — express incredulity thinking water isn’t implicit in treaties.

The lawyer Kolby KickingWoman representing the Navaho is described as Dine — he identifies as Blackfeet/A’aniih and is from MT.  Dine is the word used by Navaho to describe themselves — word means “the people.”

Mr. KickingWoman is philosophic about the outcome of the case.  Given the fact that Navaho on the reservation consume ONLY 7 gallons of water daily, he says, “Maybe perhaps there’s a possibility for better understanding of our future as Indigenous people here.”  Read more from ICT — Indian Country Times>>>
